Great summary and analysis! This sort of insight needs to be shared far and wide! T and I are doing our best while in NC to make the fam here question their assumptions about who “they” are and if there’s really any logic to the supposed conspiracies “they” are supposedly trying to cover up.

Wonder what the in-laws think about all the things their "we" group is up to right now...?

It has been very eye opening (and disheartening) to get a peek into how they consume information (or don’t) and how they think and perceive. The sad truth is they think and act purely on feelings and us vs. them perceptions rather than facts. They made it painfully clear that they don’t even care about the facts. They think, and unfortunately vote, based on their emotional reactions to conservative rhetoric that they mostly hear on Facebook and YouTube. I got my mother-in-law to admit that she won’t do the work to be an informed voter and won’t change her mind when presented with new factual information, and that she voted for Trump simply because he was the Republican option. (Surprisingly she also seemed to agree that she might stop inadvertently harming people if she just stopped voting but I doubt she will.) I think these are true for far too many Americans. And how can one make any progress with people who don’t care about truth?!

I'm impressed with your persistence and chutzpah. <3 I don't know if we can make progress with people who don't care about truth ... it might be a question of finding people who *would* care but aren't getting the truth, or people who do get the truth but haven't yet been willing to do anything about it.
